um meine problematik in möglichst vielen foren zu veröffentlichen und zeit zu sparen, ist diese auf englisch verfasst (sorry):

there is a problem i cannot solve alone.
i locally developed a website on typo3 on a mac running tiger. i started using mamp server from webedition.
as the time has come i had to move the site online. so i dumped the database with phpmyadmin on macos (something about 8mb) and tried to sql-import the dump (with phpmyadmin on linux) to the online server. first i got timeouts. then i chunked the dump in some parts but it was still running as slow as grandma drives.
i tried to change the export so i checked the "ignore failures INSERTs". it ran a little bit faster.
as i finally got the dump up & running some hours later, the special characters such as german äöü were fragged. just like utf-8 encoded with ISO. (the site had to be launched this day so me and colleague had to change the fragged characters manually)
is there any workaround for this kind of incompartibility?
