I can read German just fine, though for me, wrting in German takes about 4 times as long than writing in English, so please excuse my English.

I'm looking at chosing a CMS. My current choice is between webgui and typo3. My biggest concearn is the following:

I need to integrate a lot of my own concepts into various applications. I run a game (wulfram), and I need to take in-game concepts and migrate these into say, the forum, and other various applications (like a photo album, screen shots page, user list, etc).

I'd like to find a CMS that is object oriented (or fine-grained pluggable) whereby I can simply use the existing work of others, and then override some of the specifics -- percisely where I need them to be different from the original.

It's funny that you guys are using phpBB. It's a great Forum, but it certainly isn't something that would fall into my category of "extendable" and have the extensions survive into the future.

I need to add concepts like player rankings, player squadron affiliations, in-game department affiliations, and donor status. So I have these concepts in a foreign database, I want to use them in my CMS, and I'd like to override only certain points in the user application. In a forum for example, where the persons name shows up, maybe I'd add various icons depending on the squad, donor membership, and various other criteria.

Actually, I want to override how a users name is displayed everywhere. In all applications in the CMS. Mind you -- that's just one example.

Is that easy to do with typo3? What about future upgrades. I know I can hack code (much like I've done with the current wulfram website), but what about when there is a new code base (or new application revisions).

I most of all care about how such modifications will survive in an environment where code keeps changing. I know that phpBB isn't written like that...

thoughts?
